I dare you...

Today I am going to dare my family.  We are going to do our best to strive to be better as a unit and as individuals.  I am going to strive to be a better mom and wife.  And I dare my family to join me in this endeavor.

I attend a group twice a month called MOPs, Mothers Of Preschoolers.  It's for moms with kids 5 and under.  I just joined this group last September (due to my own stupidity, but that's for another post) and I really enjoy the time I spend there.  Some times I feel like I should stop going because it's one more thing on my agenda for the week but I never regret going and always have a good time.  It's two hours with no kiddos and a lot of mom-focused things.  This year's theme is, Be You, Bravely.  I love it and think it is SO appropriate for me and my life.  I think it has made me think a lot about who I am and why.  We talked today about mom fears.

My table had some great discussions... what are you afraid of as a mom?  Is it something little like, I'm afraid my child is going to fall off a toy and get hurt?  Is is something big like, I worry my child is going to die very young?  Is it somewhere in between like, I'm afraid of how I will handle parenting my child once they hit their teenage years?
Does your fear keep you from being you?
What can you implement to help ease your fears and not let them over take you?

So we dared each other... and our families.  What does our family need so that we are at our best and get the most out of our relationships and our time together?

Here's my dare list... it's in a frame and I'm using dry erase markers so it can be changed as needed.  It's posted next to our chore chart and calendar where I know my kids will look at it daily.
It reads:  I dare you....
1.  Be patient
2.  Say "I love you" a lot
3. Use your words :)
4. Play together joyfully
5.  Work as a team
6.  Speak kindly
7. Show gratitude
8. Be responsible
9.  Laugh together a lot
10.  Always Pray!!!



It may seem like those are silly or like they don't make sense with mom fears but they're things we need as a family to remember.  I need to remember to slow down and spend time with my children, this will help me.  And we can keep each other accountable this way.  There's very little we can control when it comes to our children but I can control how I treat them and how much time I spend with them.  I can control that they WILL grow up knowing how much I cared for them.

What would you dare your family to do?  Go outside more?  Read more?  Sing songs together?
