A walk (bike ride) in the park

Having such a mild winter has really afforded us a lot of benefits that we don't usually get. Lots of sunny days and beautiful parks in which to enjoy them have been a refuge for us when there is not much else to do (at least without spending money, that we don't have). So on this particular day we headed out to Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island. They have a mile+ trail that you can walk that circles a pond and has beautiful scenery. We decided to take Audrey's bike and let her get some practice on it in a place where she has long stretches to "drive" without the worry of cars. Derek, Brianna and I walked while she biked.

The girls stopped and "talked" to the ducks in the pond. It has always fascinated me how into animals both girls are. They also seem to truly believe that they can communicate with the animals. The quacked and quacked at those ducks and were perfectly content that the ducks didn't pay them a bit of attention.

There was a beautiful gazebo that sits on the lake.

Audrey rode her bike for over a half a mile. We were so proud.

"Cloudy" Leopards

My kids love the zoo. We could go once a week and they would be thrilled. They never bore of looking at the same animals and are happy to trek up and down the hills. They love eating lunch at the zoo, even if it is as unremarkable as PB & J with goldfish crackers. They are just so content to be outside and around animals.

While I often get tired of looking at the same exhibits I try to revel in the joy they get of going. Well this past Monday there was something new to look at. Up until now the most recent acquisition was the arctic foxes which they used to have a few years ago but just got back this past summer. They are usually sleeping though and take up all of 90 seconds to observe. This time it was something they haven't had at Point Defiance in a LONG time. Clouded Leopards! I love wild cats so when we got the email saying that they were introducing two of the three this past Monday, we went. They are 8-9 month old cubs, not litter mates, and oh so social. They loved the girls and the male came right up to the glass a few times to look at them. They were very playful and so cute. The pictures might be a little glare-y because I had to take them through glass but you'll get the picture (har har). Audrey called them cloudy leopards all day.

It was cloudy and sprinkled a bit but other than this it was not cold and not at all crowded. We had a great time. Here are a few more pictures:

At the touch tanks, Brianna would exclaim, "I did it, mommy!" every time she touched something.

Easter 2010

On Easter we had quite the busy day. We started off the day with our traditional cinnamon rolls. Then we all got dolled up and headed to church. Here are the girls in their Easter finest...

After church we went over to "Grandpa" Mike and "Grandma" Jeannie's for an Easter Egg Hunt. They are the parents of one of Derek's best friends and have known all of us since we were in high school or earlier. The kids all like to share their grandparents so the girls call them grandpa and grandma as well. There were tons of eggs out and the girls had a great time collecting. They ended up with quite a haul and Brianna barely needed help. Luckily it didn't rain and it was fun for all.

After the hunt and lots of yummy food we came home for a nap time. After nap we headed to Grandma Lynnette's for more food and another egg hunt. Audrey found the "money egg" and earned $10!!!!! Way to go Audrey!

Egg decorating

We spent the morning the day before Easter coloring eggs to hide for a family Easter Egg Hunt. We gathered at Grandma Lynnette's and had 48 eggs to color. Audrey, Brianna and Doc had a good time, made a big mess and did a great job.

In other news, I am now 16 weeks pregnant. I have another appointment on Monday, April 5, to check growth and heartbeat. At that appointment we will be able to set up our appointment to find out what we're having. I can't wait to find out and am so excited that we will know in just a few short weeks.
