Four Years

So Audrey turned four earlier this month and we had to go in for her annual check-up. I LOVE the girls' pediatrician but I was NOT looking forward to this appointment because we knew it meant shots.

We had the whole appointment and Audrey did really really well. She did everything the doctor asked her to and she was very cooperative. She is 40.5'' tall and weighs in at 37 pounds. She is right on developmentally with the exception of her writing. She is a little behind but the doctor said it is most likely due to her being left-handed but trying to write right-handed because that's what she sees. So we have to work on writing and letting her know it is okay to be left-handed. She passed both her vision and hearing tests with no issues. Then it came time for shots.

Audrey gets a flu shot every year but had not had one yet this year due to a shortage at the clinic. Therefore it had been since October of 2008 since she had a shot last. We tried to prepare her but she was NOT prepared. There are four shots that children have to get before kindergarten and we are able to give them in any combo that works. Derek and I decided to split them up and do two this year and two next year so that she didn't have to have all at once. Then during the appointment Dr. R said that they did have the flu shot in if we wanted to do that too. I figured we might as well. They have a nasal mist but I didn't think she was ready to handle that just yet. So three shots were on the docket and I was getting anxious. The first two were back to back so Audrey didn't have a lot of time to think about it. The look of incredulity on her face was priceless, though. Then they had to switch to the other arm to do the last shot and she had too much time to think about it. The millisecond that the needle hit her arm she let out a blood-curdling scream that would rival horror movies. I felt SO bad. Luckily I explained to her why we get shots and once the initial pain was gone she wasn't mad about having to have them done. Now we don't have to worry about it for a year and she will only have to get two next year. YAY.... I think. :)

Three months and still going...

Well today is the three month mark of Derek's layoff. We are still just waiting around. Unfortunately when you are in a union that's how it works. Derek could try to find a job but if he finds something being an electrician he violates his agreement with the union hall and we would have to pay back all the money they have invested in his training. So, we wait... and wait... and wait. The list is slowly starting to pick up but it could be a little while still. It is frustrating, discouraging and stressful. While bills pile up and we struggle to make ends meet we know that God has a plan. We are trusting in Him and what He has planned. Not stressing is hard to do but we are surviving. Which is all we can do right now. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and we will update as soon as we know something. Plus, I will post some more pictures of the girls soon :)

Riding Bikes

For Christmas my mom and Kenny decided to get the girls new bicycles. Audrey had outgrown the tricycle that we bought on Craigslist last year and of course Brianna couldn't be left out. So they each got a new bike. Brianna got a pink and purple Radio Flyer tricycle and Audrey got a Barbie two-wheeler with training wheels. It came complete with a bike for Barbie. Audrey even got a matching Barbie helmet and knee/elbow pad set. Yesterday we decided to take the girls to the local elementary school since we had a brief break from the rain. Brianna can't quite reach the peddles completely but she had fun trying. She should be good by the spring/summer. Audrey was starting to get the hang of peddling and turning but was getting frustrated because her feet kept slipping because of the rain and poor treads on her shoes. She still had a good time and can't wait to go out and ride again.

I feel like my life is currently a constant waiting game. We are waiting for so many things and it seems like every time we turn around there is something else that we have to wait for. It may be a few weeks, it may be a month, it may be unknown how long we are going to have to wait but we are still here waiting. I am sure it is GOD deciding to take drastic action to finally teach me patience, ok maybe not, but I am sure that's what I am supposed to learn from all of this. However, it is exhausting and can be very stressful. I wish that I could be done waiting. I have to constantly remind myself that while we are waiting for things to happen... life is still happening. I have two gorgeous little girls who are so funny, loving and a joy to be around (most of the time) and I have to focus on being here (mentally) and enjoying them grow up. That is all.  Just needed to rant :)

Four Years Ago ....

On today's date four years ago, I was due to have my first child. It seemed like it had been a looonnnngggg nine months. We were prepared for our little girl. We knew she was doing well and just anxious to meet her. Derek started his apprenticeship on this day and we were nervous about how the new baby would fit in with our new schedule that we weren't used to yet. I was disappointed because we had awaited this date and there was nothing happening. Although we didn't have too long to wait. On January 10, at nine-thirty at night, my water broke and Audrey Anne was born on January 11th.

Today we had Audrey's fourth birthday party. Audrey insisted on a Princess theme. We had a great time. Lots of friends and family came and we missed those who couldn't be here. I made the cake myself and think it turned out pretty well. Here is a picture of it:

Not too shabby for my first attempt at a cake like this. The bottom layer was chocolate fudge cake with raspberry filling, the middle layer was lemon with cream cheese filling and the top was a small layer of lemon with raspberry filling. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and it only cost me about $15 total. The figurines Audrey already had so I just washed them and put them on top.
Here is our princess:

and little Miss Me Too who had to dress-up too because her big sister did....

Lofty Goals

Derek and I are taking on a new goal this new year. We are going to try to run the St. Patty's Day Dash in Seattle. It is a fun run and is 3.8 miles long. Derek and I have a "training schedule" and are getting started this week. We can walk it if we want to, which I am sure I will have to do for at least part of it. This is a nice goal to have so that we can work out with a purpose. Wish us luck and we will keep you posted on our progress.

Little Girls!

I love love love having little girls. Tonight I was able to make some super cute hair bows for the girls. I started out making them bows for their Easter dresses and then it snowballed from there. Here are the bows I ended up making:

Delayna actually made the green polka-dotted one but I made all the rest.
