Long time, no Wordless Wednesday

I keep forgetting to do this so I would like to resume my Wordless Wednesdays...

Is it just me?

I feel like whenever we go out to eat in the last couple of years we get bad service more often then not. Last night we went to IHOP for their free short stack promo that they were doing. It was good food and was a great way to get dinner out for less than $8 but by the end I was wondering if it was even worth it. Our waitress visited our table once after we got our food and then I basically had to chase her down after we finished our food and waited almost 10 minutes and she still hadn't come back at all. I don't know if it is because we have children that waiters/waitresses think that they don't have to be as attentive or what. It is quite frustrating. Now don't get me wrong, we have had some really good servers but it seems like when it's bad it's really bad. That's my vent for today. :)

On the upside Brianna slept better last night. She has had a nasty head cold the last couple of days and I hesitate to give her anything because she is so little. Someone mentioned putting Vick's Vapor Rub on her feet. I had been putting the baby version on her chest but I hadn't heard of this method before. I asked around a little and while no one could tell me HOW it works, several people seconded the recommendation. So I tried it. She slept through the night and was awake at her normal time of 6 a.m. this morning. So it must of helped. That will definitely be in my bag of tricks from now on.

A whole weekend

This weekend we had a whole weekend with Derek. Needless to say, it has been a while. We had a pretty low-key weekend. Friday we got Derek's "drug money" (the money he gets for passing his random drug test) and decided to go to Outback because it had been a long time since we had been. The food was great and the kids were good, even though Audrey spilled her chocolate milk on the floor and our waiter was s-l-o-w. Saturday we had a pretty mellow day as well. We hung out most of the morning and then after Brianna's morning nap we went and ran some errands. Then we came home for naps again. That evening I went to a Ladies Birthday Party at the church. It was a good time. We just hung out, ate a lot, listened to some special music and got to support our local Pregnancy Resource Center with donations for them. Derek and the girls had Matt and Eva over for some hot dogs, bratwurst and fun. They had a great time too. Yesterday was church as usual and then we headed over to the Burleson's for lunch and hanging out. They have seven children who love our children and therefore occupied Audrey all day long. She had a BLAST! She was so worn out by the time we got home that she crashed within two minutes of being put in bed. She was a really good girl over there and even pooped! Which is a big deal because she normally will save poop for home, no matter how long the wait is. Brianna was a little crabby because she was getting a cold which is here in full force today. I am playing booger patrol as we speak. Otherwise things are well. We are headed to Bellingham this weekend to spend some time with the Wrights, which is LONG overdue. We can't wait. It is a much needed break for us all.

A new job site

So Derek started at another new job site yesterday and we are finally getting some relief. He is now working in South Seattle so it is a closer commute and he starts an hour earlier which is a blessing because then he is home by 4:00 p.m. After almost a year of overtime on and off it will be nice to have a break for a while. We know that at some point he is going to start working Saturdays again but we hope it will hold off for a couple of months. It is nice to see so much of him and Audrey is loving all the daddy time.

A New Kind of Normal

I don't know if you have ever heard that phrase before but ever since the first time I heard it I have thought about how many times it has been applicable in my life. Every time I am about to embark upon a new chapter in my life I try to mentally prepare for what is to come. In case you don't know be very well, I like to be prepared. I can't stand going somewhere if I don't feel prepared and am anxious if I get there and realize I don't have everything I needed and will get irritated with myself if I didn't anticipate a need that arose. Anyway, I like to be prepared. So often in life there have been things that are hard to prepare for or mentally imagine accomplishing: going off to college, graduating from college, getting married, having a baby, having another baby and so on and so forth. All those times I tried to imagine the change in my life or the event occurring and it was often so surreal that I just didn't feel prepared.

Tonight I was talking to a friend of mine who is going through one of these life changes soon. She is about to have a second child in a little less than a month and it has started to hit her. All the changes that are going to occur and such. Many, if not all, of the things she said to be could have been taken straight from me a little less than a year ago right before Brianna was born. I tried to reassure her that all would work out, that this little boy would come into the world and she would just know him and love him and would find a way to make it all work. Find her new kind of normal. It is still hard to imagine for her and I know that but hopefully it eased her mind to hear that I had the same fears/concerns/anxieties.

All this led to me thinking of my second addition, Brianna Rose. She will be 10 months old tomorrow. I can't believe how time has flown. She is beautiful and still a peanut. She is a voracious eater and still smiles every time a camera is held up. She loves her big sister and HATES that she is unable to run around with her yet. She is babbling, crawling, standing and doing everything within her ability to be walking as soon as possible. She has FIVE teeth now, one of which I didn't even know she had until I caught it in the light tonight, it is one of her canines and it has just popped through the gums with no warning to me. She plays peek-a-boo, will growl like a tiger if you do it first and has a smile for almost anyone, including strangers. I love her to death and can't even really remember what it was like before her... although, I do remember sleeping more since Audrey isn't an early bird and Brianna is (6 a.m. every morning). I love my girls and pray that my friend has the same awesome experience that I have had with my second.

This is Brianna after she went into the diaper bag, found the Puffs, opened them and was helping herself to fistfuls of them. She looks mischievous, no?

Valentine's Day

Yesterday was Valentine's Day and Derek and I actually went out on a date. My mom came over and watched the girls while we went out. We went to dinner at Red Robin and then went to a movie. Derek owed me a chick flick since we went and saw The Dark Knight for our fifth anniversary. So we went and saw Confessions of a Shopaholic. It was cute. It was really nice to go out just the two of us. I can't remember the last time we did both dinner and a movie in the same night, just us. We have had nine Valentine's Days together and it is fun to think of how far we have come. The girls had a good time with Nana too. I give the day a thumbs-up, even if Derek did have to work up until a half an hour before we left for our date.

PNW Moms Launch Party

In honor of a new website for moms in the Pacific Northwest (PNW), www.pnwmoms.com, there was a launch party at The Zone on Friday. Bekah and I took Audrey, Brianna and Eva and met up with Beth and her girls. There was an airbrush face painter, bounce house, tea party, crafts, bubbles, fire truck and lots of room to run around. It was a really good time. Audrey and Eva both got airbrush tattoos on their arms because they didn't want them on their faces. Audrey got a dolphin and Eva got a horse. Here is a slideshow of the fun we had:

Like father, like daughter

So Audrey has started this new thing where she talks in her sleep occasionally... like her father. One time, in our first year of marriage, Derek was asleep and I was reading in bed. He rolled over to me and said, "Pick which ever one you want." I was baffled and asked him, "One what, honey?". "Donuts of course." I laughed, told him that I would pick one later and he rolled over and went back to sleep, not to have any recollection of it in the morning. Well two times in the last couple of weeks Audrey has taken up this familiar habit and, not too surprisingly, it has had something to do with food both times. The first time about, ten days ago, she woke up at about 11:00 p.m. and screamed out that she wanted oranges. She was DEAD asleep. Then last night she started crying quite loudly and I went in and asked her what was wrong. "I want a chocolate donut", she said. I laughed and told her we didn't have any and to go back to sleep. It will be interesting to see what other interesting phrases erupt from her in the dead of night.

Swim Class

Since the fifth of January Audrey has been taking a swim class twice a week. It was a beginners class as she is not comfortable with water on her head at all. The class was designed to introduce rudimentary skills and get them comfortable with the water most of all. She did a great job. During her first class she wouldn't even let her face close to the water. By the end she would blow bubbles and sometimes put her face in. We are very proud. She is now done with the session and is going to be moving on to a tumbling class at the local YMCA for a couple of months and then we will go back to swimming. I don't have the energy for her to have a class three times a week and I don't think she does either, which is why we are alternating them. Here is a slideshow of her last class and a video of her sliding into the water. Enjoy!

February

Well it is officially February and so far it is shaping up nicely. We have had sun everyday this week so far and that is making it feel like spring even when spring is still several weeks away. Brianna is still sleeping funky but it seems to be tapering off and getting slowly back to normal. *knock on wood* Audrey's last swim class is today and next week she will be starting Tumble Bears at the YMCA. I am excited for that and especially for having a class only once a week instead of twice. I have failed miserably in January on exercising and am hoping to make a better go of it in February... we shall see. So far I have really stepped up the intensity, now if I can just keep it regular. I am catching up on housework the rest of this week since so much got pushed to the side when I was getting the worst of Brianna's night issues. Hopefully I can catch up by Friday so that I won't have to think about it over the weekend. Well, I better get back to it. I will upload pics soon, I got their pictures back yesterday from JC Penney, and hopefully will keep my blog a little more updated in February than I did in January.
