A what in my dishwasher?

So today I actually got off my lazy, pregnant, sciatic ridden butt and did a bunch of housework! YAY me! Anyway, I was emptying out the dishwasher. I get almost all the way done and I am about to pull a handful of silverware out of the holder when I notice something brownish in there. I look closer.... it looks like a spider. Yep, definitely a spider! I figure it must have crawled in there and gone through the wash with the dishes. (BTW, for those of you who might not know, I HATE spiders) I feel a little bad that it has died this way but mostly I am thinking about the fact that I have to rinse out the holder and get that thing down the drain because even though I think it is dead it is still a spider and must get out of my house. So I move a fork so that I can empty out the holder and the darn thing MOVES!!! So what do I do? Slam the dishwasher shut and put it through a rinse cycle. Poor thing... sort of. If he survived once, which I am not sure if he did or not, he might again so I don't open the dishwasher again. I so much don't want to open the dishwasher that I hand washed the sinkful of dishes that were sitting there... yep, I hate them that much. I waited until Derek got home and made him open the dishwasher to see if it was still there. It wasn't, at least that we could see, so I am going to tell myself that it went bye bye down the drain. Yuck. That was my big excitement for the day. :)

Potty training

So we decided to attempt potty training with Audrey. We went out and bought her Dora pull-ups. We have the potty set up and even made up a sticker chart. We have a hand out from the pediatrician on how she suggests to go about it and I have done some reading online. We know what not to do (punish for accidents) and what to do (take her to the bathroom frequently). Our pediatrician told us it wasn't always wise to wait until they seemed ready because some kids never will. So we thought with the Binky gone and her in a big girl bed, we would try it out. So yesterday I put her in her Dora panties, as she refers to them, gave her a big cup of juice and set the timer for a half an hour. When the half hour was up we went to the potty. I could tell she had already peed a little in her pull-up because the stars were starting to fade (gotta love modern conveniences). So I told her again that we want to put the pee pee in the potty. She agreed and we sat there for 7 minutes. Nothing but a couple of toots, which she finds hilarious by the way. So we pulled her Dora panties back up and I told her we would try again in a little while. FIVE MINUTES LATER.... "Audrey, what is that smell? Did you poo poo?" Of course she did! Know why? Because we had just been on the potty. UGH!! We are going to try for about a month. If we aren't having any success... it is back to exclusively diapers until the new baby is a couple of months old. I don't want to be in the middle of training when Brianna is born. Also, everything I read said not to do it during a big life change like a move or a new baby. So we will see what happens. Hopefully it will start to click, but if it doesn't. Oh well!

Theories and test results

"Your test results came back normal." This is what I heard when the nurse called me yesterday. I am so stoked! Not that gestational diabetes would have been the end of the world or anything but it is nice to not have to worry about it. I do have a theory though.. and why not, after sitting in the doctor's office for a total of six hours between the two pregnancies. I have decided that the reason I always just fail the one hour test is because I have a slow metabolism. So when I drink that nasty glucola drink I haven't processed it enough for my sugar levels to be normal. So then when I take the three hour one I have no problem passing. What I do have a problem with is being stuck with a needle four different times, or as was the case this time 6 different times. UGH! My nurse for the third draw wasn't very good and tried it in three places before she got blood. Plus, she tried it in my forearm which stung like nobody's business. For those of you who don't know, I don't bruise very easily.

Needles, sciatic nerve pain and The Office

So I don't really have anything profound to write about today but I am excited about the fact that my three hour glucose test is over!! YAY!! I haven't found out the results yet but I am optimistic that I will have passed. I took my mom's portable DVD player with me yesterday to the test and it was such a good way to pass the time. I watched the Holiday and read some magazines. I was so hungry though by the time I was done that I went to Taco Del Mar (which is my current craving) and ate a WHOLE big burrito. Which I normally can't do. Man I was so full I was uncomfortable for hours. I ate so fast I even cut my lip on the aluminum foil because I was eating so fast... :/ I did get one bad nurse who poked me three times for one blood draw and so I ended up getting poked 6 times instead of 4 times, which for those of you who don't know I HATE needles and this was not fun.

As far as pregnancy stuff goes I will be 30 weeks along tomorrow... 3/4 of the way through!! I can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going by. May still sounds really far away but when I say 10 weeks, it doesn't sound that far away. Eeek! I am feeling pretty good except for the sciatic nerve pain. I never had this with Audrey and it is quite the painful experience. Every night I put a heating pad on it and try to stretch the nerve as much as possible but I still deal with it every time I stand up. I already mentioned that I am currently jonesing for Taco Del Mar 24/7. At least it is healthier than my 3rd month craving of McDonald's. The best part right now is feeling her moving around all the time (which isn't as fun at 3 am). Audrey talks to "Bee-baa" and even listens to my belly for her. I don't know what she expects to hear but she started doing that this week all on her own. Well, soon it will be over and I know I will miss it but I can't wait for the baby to come.

The only other thing to add is that Derek and I started watching The Office on Netflix online and LOVE it. I didn't expect to like it but it is so funny. I think because neither Derek or I work office jobs right now it is funnier. We just started season 3 and think it is official that we are addicted. Oh well, there are much worse things that we could be addicted to. At least we are both into it and can spend time together watching it. Well I gotta go and do laundry and make my daughter some lunch. Plus, I just got a whiff of something and I think that means it is diaper change time. Later!

Here is a pic of my 30 week baby belly:

President's day fun...

So Derek doesn't get a lot of holidays off and therefore had to work yesterday. Unfortunately it was such a beautiful day. Fortunately though Derek gets home early enough that we were able to go to the Harbor Fountain Park at the ferry terminal. For those of you who haven't been down to the Bremerton Ferry terminal in the last couple of years, you really need to go visit. It is a nice area now. Lots of businesses and a beautiful little fountain park. Here are the few pics I got from yesterday:

You can see the water spouting of the top if you look closely...
Another shot of the water
The water splashing down

What Audrey thought of the fountains.

I failed again....

So I went to the doctor yesterday for my 29 week appointment, yes I did say 29 weeks, and did my one hour glucose test. Well, I failed it again. :( Oh well. I have to go in next Wednesday for my three hour test which I am really looking forward to <--- note the sarcasm. I passed it when I was pregnant with Audrey so I am going to hope that is the case this time as well. On the upside I ordered new glasses today, which I haven't had new glasses since ... well, I don't remember when. So I am really excited and can't wait to get them in. Also, we got Audrey's Easter dress which is really beautiful. It is a gorgeous shade of blue which will look great with her blue eyes. I can't wait for her to wear it.

A funny story...

I just wanted to share a funny thing that happened to Derek and I a couple of months ago. We were in KFC, Audrey was with us and we were just having dinner. Yes I know, the height of nutrition!! About half way through our dinner these two late teenaged girls walk by our table. One of the girls says to us - " I just wanted to tell you guys what an awesome job you are doing with your daughter. Thanks for raising her!" We said thank you and as she left, looked at each other and laughed. I had almost forgot about this and just thought I would share our humorous experience with you all!

You forget the pain.....

When you are getting ready to have a baby for the first time there are two schools of people that you meet. 1. The optomists that say that delivery hurts but it isn't so bad, otherwise people wouldn't do it more than once right? 2. The pessimists who tell who how horrible their labors/deliveries were and how they hope you don't have that problem. Plus they like to remind you that first time moms almost always deliver late, sometimes up to a week or more. However, no matter who you are listening to they always tend to end with: " ... you eventually forget the pain."
Well, I am here to tell you that I think that is a load of crap. As a second time mom, who is getting ready to deliver in about 11 weeks, I haven't forgotten the pain. I am not having another baby because I have forgotten how much it hurt to have the first one, I am doing it again because I know that the pain is worth it. Plus, I know that I can do it because I have before. That doesn't make me look forward to it any more though. Don't get me wrong, I am definitely looking forward to having this baby and can't wait until she is here but the actual process of her coming.... into this world isn't something that I am looking forward to. But again in the end I know that all the pain will be worth it.
Plus I like to do something stupid every day - I watch A Baby Story on TLC. For those of you who have never watched this show it shows a couple in the last week or two of pregnancy as well as the labor and delivery. Some of these women don't handle delivery... um, quietly and sometimes it isn't the best show for a woman in the last trimester of her pregnancy. Oh well, delivery is the inevitable and I still can't wait for it, even if it involves a lot of pain. Oh, gotta go... A Baby Story is on :)

Getting started...

I have always admired women who could keep a journal or a diary consistently. I think I have a total of one and a half journals from the last 10 years!! I always thought it would be nice to look back at certain times in my life and see what I was thinking and see how things work out. So this is my journal. I am going to record the things going on in my life and my thoughts about it. Plus I thought it would be a nice way to capture the little things that my daughter does that I don't always think enough about to sit down and write about it. I hope in 5, 10, 15 years from now I can use this to look back and remember the way Audrey sings her ADD's (ABC's) and counts from one to ten in spanish.
So this is a little bit about me. I am a wife of almost 5 years and a mother to a 2 year old daughter, Audrey. I am also 6 months pregnant with another little girl that we plan on naming Brianna. I am currently a stay at home mom but I plan to return to teaching some day. Life is moving so fast and trying to slow down and enjoy it can be so hard. I find myself constantly looking forward and not always taking the time to enjoy where I am right now. I keep thinking, only this many more weeks until the baby is born, only this many more weeks until we can do such and such.... always waiting and looking forward. All the while my daughter is growing up and I feel like I am missing it. She can do so much and I feel like it is just happening too fast. Well, that is me in a nutshell. I am going to try to post frequently and keep this updated. Hopefully this will not fall to the wayside like my many attempts at journaling over the years. Hopefully this will be my refuge and a place to record memories that otherwise time might take away from me. Enjoy!
